Beach Vacation!

I'm on a beach vacation this week!

Although the beach I'm visiting isn't quite as nice as this one...
It is still the perfect location to RELAX.

I've enjoyed doing nothing!

Am I ready to return to work/school on August 8th?
That is a bittersweet question.

I'm ready to get into a school year routine.
I'm not ready to give up my summer days of no routine.

I'm ready to see all of the kids at school again.
I'm not ready to give up all of my time with my own kids.

I know there are many more & those of you who work in a school understand :)

I'll be back blogging soon with more school year stories
& anything else I think you would enjoy!
Let me know if there is anything you want to share too!

It's HOT Outside!

I can't believe how HOT it has been this week!
I live in the Midwest & as I type this post The Weather Channel reports
the temperature as 97*F but feeling like it is 107*F!

What brings me to write this post is my fear of the extreme heat and the student athletes who are practicing for their sport already!  The The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention have prepared some great guidelines that I recently shared with the AD and coaches at my school!

I wanted to share them with you too.

I updated this post a few weeks after the original post.
The orginal was about 14 pages long- which I realized was a little excessive!

EpiPen Training Items

I am frequenly asked about EpiPen training!

Which reminds me of a fun parent note I came across one summer.
The note was written...
Phil Inthe Blank "carries an epi pen.
If he is stung enject him in the thy and call 911 imeatly!"

Now that you've caught your breath-

Glucagon Training Items

I usually try to use my summer time to prepare for a great start for the upcoming school year.  This summer I've put together a training sequence for all of our bus drivers!  Very exciting...All of the bus drivers are going to receive a basic first aid power point presentation- complete with handouts and instructions on how to handle different health/medical situations that may occur during their bus route.

Also, there are a handful of drivers with students who have Type 1 Diabetes on their buses.  Those drivers are getting a more in depth education on how to treat severe low blood sugar.  In doing my research I've found some very useful tools that I wanted to share with the rest of you....

For a free Glucagon training kit you can call Lily @ 1-800-545-5979.  I've already requested my free training kit but haven't received it yet.  I've read online that some of the kits come with an educational DVD- we'll see.  I was given this resource by a friend whose young son has Diabetes.  The nice gal at Lily referred me to the below training video (how nice!),

2011-2012 Motto

When I came into work for a few hours today I found
a very old, silk type banner in my waiting room (with what I just decided)
will be my new motto for the 2011-2012 school year!
This banner has the following phrase embroidered onto it ...

"You Miss School... You Miss Out!

Now I realize blogging has a learning curve
and I think my posts would be more appealing with a picture or video attached...
So, I will work on getting a picture of this lovely banner for all to see and enjoy :)
